Pilates with Ross

I come from a movement and dance background and have used Pilates to stay healthy and strong as a dance professional. After my career I decided that I would continue to grow my knowledge of movement and combine it with Pilates to pass on and help others.

After successfully receiving funding from the Dancers career development, I trained at Body control Pilates where I gained my Mat Work level 3, Intermediate Mat and attended the Reformer 1 course. With this training, I was able to combine the expertise from my 25 year dance career with Pilates to create the classes I teach today.

I like to make my classes fun and flowing and use small equipment such as foam rollers, bands, blocks and weights to improve awareness, flexibility and strength. I take part in continued professional development to ensure best practice in all areas of the technique.

I believe Pilates helps with every part of your well-being, both physically and mentally, working holistically to connect everything together. A class is one precious hour to focus in on yourself, to breathe and move.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being.

Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility, focusing on the mind-body connection. While working through the various exercises your mind needs to be constantly aware of your breathing and the way your body moves.

This form of exercise was developed by Joseph Pilates in Germany in the early part of the 20th century. He invented Pilates as an exercise program for injured dancers and soldiers and is now practised around the world. Many of his original exercises still exist, although it has moved forward with science and is continually developing.
